Florida Senator Jim King is Out of Touch With His Constituents

The latest of Sen. King's viewing an issue from his personal standpoint is that he doesn't want to pass a law which would allow police officers to pull you over if you are not wearing your seatbelt. Even though it is law that you must wear your seatbelt an officer must have some other reason to pull you over.
Though King has been spotted not wearing his seatbelt, he insists he's not just flouting the current law.

In 2003 Sen King thwarted efforts to require abortion clinics to adhere to the same standards as outpatient surgery clinics and other one day surgical procedures. The bill was never heard by the Senate but could have been if Sen King allowed it.  This is not the position of a real conservative who is interested in protecting all of Florida's citizens.

The most recent of Sen King's offensive statements is his apology for a prayer which included "freedom for people to believe in Jesus Christ." it's hard to believe  but true and you can read about it here.Lawmaker apologizes for prayer in Jesus' name

Florida Senate President Jim King did the right thing when he voted for Terri's Law in response to many emails and phone calls urging him to do so. I find it interesting that on Monday October 20 2003 I called his Jacksonville office and was told that he would not support the bill. Overnight Sen King changed his mind because the wind was blowing a different direction. He allowed a special session and the bill was approved.

Since that time there have been articles detailing Sen King's true position in this and other matters which have not been reported by any Jacksonville news outlets until recently. The Florida Times Union made a very brief mention of King's regret in voting for Terri's Law in this article.
Time is short, days long for state legislators' staff

The brief mention may have come from this article
Regret plagues King after Schiavo vote
These quotes from the article really show King's true position:
"The Terri Schiavo vote that I made was probably one of the worst votes that I've ever done," said the Jacksonville Republican and 18-year veteran of the Legislature.

There is "no question" he would not vote that way today, King said, "and if it comes up again I will not do it."

In regard to homosexuals adopting Sen. King said this
"They're doing everything else but adopting, and in many cases ... it is the adoptable child that really isn't being adopted by anyone else," King said in response to a question. "Empirical evidence is that gays that have been involved in foster parenting have better performance factors than a lot of the "normal' foster parents."

Sen Steve Wise has proposed a bill which would prevent the removal of a feeding tube from someone who is incompetent and had no written directive.
Sen King said this in response to Sen Wise's bill

``I don't want anything on the floor in that Senate that is going to give platforms to people who want to roll back the hands of time for whatever reason,'' King said. ``As soon as you put something on the floor, as well-intended as it may be, anybody can amend it. Then all of a sudden I'm sitting there facing a bill or bills that can dismantle what I consider to be my legacy.''

This quote can be found in this article Changes Proposed In Right-To-Die Laws

These articles are being run in papers that Sen Jim King's constituents probably don't read.  The voters in his district need to be informed about his opinions. He has shown that he has a lack of commitment to represent us by stating that he will not vote for anything that will affect his legacy, and his statements of regretting voting as his constituents wanted him to vote. He was elected to represent us not further his own agenda.

There have been previous efforts to have Sen King removed from office.
Grassroots organization demands Senator King removal

It is my understanding that about the time this petition was gaining some momentum the tort reform legislation was passed and that ended the effort to have King removed from office.

Terri Schiavo’s Valiant Fight for Life
This article refers to Fl House Speaker Johnnie Byrd's efforts for Terri and contains these quotes:

Byrd said, "And I called the governor, called Gov. (Jeb) Bush, and he said, yes, we need to do something. I called the President of the Senate, Jim King, and said, Jim, we need to save Terri Schiavo's life, and he said, ‘No, I wrote this legislation several years ago, and I want her to die,’ and I said, No, you don't want her to die."

Now I wonder why Sen King would want Terri to die. She is a disabled person who is afforded protection under the Americans With Disabilities Act. I wonder who else Sen King thinks needs to die. It is a very curious situation. How could someone state  that another ought to die when the person is disabled, has been denied therapy, has been denied a guardian who doesn't have personal conflicts, and is not even sick? Being disabled is not a crime.
What other legislation is Sen King planning for us? What else will he refuse to listen to us about in the future?
